Books

As a full service rights management company, BMG publishes music-related books that explore the intersection of music and culture. Whether working with an artist to produce an autobiography or an author to examine an important aspect of the past, present, or future of music, BMG’s book publishing efforts deepen our relationships with existing clients and create relationships with new clients as we introduce high-quality hardbacks, paperbacks, e-books, and audiobooks to the marketplace.

THE BEST IN WORDS ABOUT MUSIC

  • Table Top Books

BMG excels at visually-oriented titles, including Johnny Cash at Folsom & San Quentin, two Motörhead books, a coffee table book by the British Invasion band The Zombies, and a limited-edition art book about The Byrds that will be signed by original members Roger McGuinn, Chris Hillman, and David Crosby. We’ve also successfully combined books with music, including a release by Country Music Hall of Famer Marty Stuart and Hank Williams: Pictures from Life’s Other Side, which is both the definitive visual book chronicling the life of the American musical icon, and a six-CD collection of his live recordings.

  • Capturing History

From female rock pioneer and Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Wanda Jackson’s memoir, to the definitive look at legendary British music TV show Ready Steady Go, to a deep dive on classic Southern soul, our book publishing efforts chronicle music’s important milestones. Featuring such respected authors and foreword writers as Barney Hoskyns, Tony Fletcher, Elvis Costello, Tom Petty, and Janis Ian, BMG seeks out thoughtful contributors to engage the most dedicated music fans.

  • Biographies & Autobiographies

From memoirs by Rock & Roll Hall of Famers such as Lamont Dozier (of the celebrated Motown songwriting team of Holland-Dozier-Holland) and Chris Hillman (of The Byrds and The Flying Burrito Brothers), to soul music pioneer and Stax Records legend Eddie Floyd, BMG provides a forum for music enthusiasts to go behind the music to learn more about the lives and artistry of their favorite performers. Whether its Iron Maiden guitarist Adrian Smith writing about his adventures as a fisherman, or self-proclaimed guitar geek Deke Dickerson completing the unfinished autobiography of guitar hero Merle Travis, great stories are at the heart of BMG’s book efforts.

A COMITTMENT TO VARIETY

  • Diversity of Genres

There are many different kinds of music, and BMG is working to build a catalog of books that reflect various sounds, eras, and interests. Whether it’s the audiobook memoir by Songwriters Hall of Famer Steve Dorff, the whimsical collection of lavishly-illustrated dreams about Bob Dylan, or our ongoing RPM Series featuring short histories of influential record labels (Sub Pop, Excello, Specialty, Cold Chillin’, Slash, and Chrysalis among them), we strive to connect with every music-loving reader.
